For the 20th anniversary of the The Shins release Oh, Inverted World on Sub Pop Records, I partnered with Ruinous Media to design graphics and a web page as a companion piece to their podcast episode Demoitis Presents The Shins.
In the episode, James Mercer (singer, songwriter and founding member of The Shins) dives into the inspiration that helped create the classic song and the band itself. The web page aims to capture this illuminating conversation, while offering interactive features where viewers can hear both James’ influences as well as the original micro cassette bedroom demos of New Slang.
The graphics I designed are a reference to the original album art for Oh, Inverted World by Andrea Leah, the music video for New Slang by Lance Bangs, and the album cover for Double Nickels on the Dime by the Minutemen (referenced by the video). I chose the rearview mirror as the driver is looking back twenty years, and simultaneously toward what the future holds for The Shins.
